Kevin Rudd's defence of his wife in the latest attack from the Howard government over the now-resolved issue of underpayment of workers by a company purchased by one of her businesses is apparently 'a hit with women', according to The Australian.
To my mind, this is just reflective of how many of the government's policies have demonstrated how out of touch they are with the fact that many families have two working parents. I'd really like to see some statistics on how many of the male Liberal front-benchers have working spouses, because I suspect the number is very low.
Meanwhile Rudd's wife Therese Rein has had the gall to work hard and become a successful businesswoman (Mikey has a good post on the 'controversy'), while John Howard, taking umbrage at Kevin Rudd's assertion that women have the right to be more than "appendages to middle-aged men", has said that women should not be criticised for their choice, whether it's to work or become an appendage to a middle-aged man. Just because it sounds bad doesn't mean it's not a perfectly appropriate description of the wives of most of these sexist, suit-wearing fucks.
The implication in the attacks by Howard government members on Rudd for his wife's business is that somehow he controls the business through her. They're so used to an unequal partnership where the man wields the power in their own marriages that they just assume Kevin Rudd's marriage fits the same mould.

How about Dutton's demand Rudd apologise for offending stay at home mums for saying 'in current day professional women can have their own lives' or words to that effect.
Cockheads.
Massive beat-up. And the media, who've been waiting for the end of Rudd's 'honeymoon' (ever since the false alarm over the Brian Burke thing a while back) are whipping it up into 'Kevin Rudd doesn't respect housewives'.
