The Do Not Call people got back to me about my complaint today... a bit too late to be of any help, but good on them.
Still no 'confirmation' email for the registration, and it'll have been a week tomorrow, by which time the registration supposedly lapses because I haven't clicked on a link in an email that doesn't exist.

I think it works like those spambots which say 'if you don't want to receive these emails any more click here' and then punish you for not eating up your spam.
