A couple of hours ago I could hear some music from someone's car wafting into our place from the carpark. It was a chinese pop song (couldn't recognise whether it was cantopop or mandopop as it was a bit too distant to distinguish) sung to the tune of 'God rest ye merry Gentlemen'.
It reminded me of a couple of years ago when I was watching an ABBA documentary on SBS and our Chinese flatmate came over when Mamma Mia was being played and said something along the lines of "I recognise that song!". She was very surprised to learn it been written during the 70's. She'd always thought it was by some Chinese group who'd pinched the tune and made up new lyrics in Mandarin!

The cutest remake in a different language I ever heard was a Macedonian version of Hotel California which kept the original chorus in English except for the substituted line:
Welcome to the hotel Makedonja
Btw I think it's Mamma Mia
You know what, I had a feeling it was wrong and I didn't bother checking. Thanks for that!
