The last couple of times Gam and I have walked to Toowong we have seen a kookaburra sitting on the fence of a house next to the ramp to the pedestrian bridge over Benson street. Typically, we haven't had the camera with us. Leaving the camera at home practically guarantees we will see something worth photographing. Today we brought the camera along just in case... but the kookaburra wasn't there. Luckily, after we did our grocery shopping it had arrived and was perched on the fence as usual.

It didn't mind me walking up close to photograph it, but it did object to the flash, and after tolerating me for 3 photographs it flew up to sit on the wall of the pedestrian bridge. I apologised by feeding it a morsel of the lamb mince we bought for tomorrow night's dinner. It got a real glint in its eye when it saw me put the mince down, so I suspect that someone else might have been feeding it too.
As we left, it flew back down to perch on the fence, only to be harassed by squeakers (native noisy miners). Bloody squeakers.

What a beautiful bird! They truly are majestic.
They are lovely birds... they appear to be quite intelligent, too.
