Food Review

Bonne Maman Chocolate Butter Cookies: I noticed these when they first arrived on the shelves of Coles a couple of months ago- the attractive packaging and exhorbitant price caught my eye. The ingredients in these biscuits are 'honest' (i.e. what you'd expect to find if you baked them yourself), and they taste pretty good, but are they worth it considering they are roughly the same price per kilogram as Lindt chocolate and you could easily make them yourself? Nope.

Jules de Strooper Kaneelkoekjes in Chocolade (cinnamon biscuits covered in chocolate): Gam and I make sure to pick up a few boxes of these at the Woolworths every time we go to Indooroopilly. They're not available in the biscuit section- instead they are located along with a bunch of imported foods in the 'canned vegetables' aisle, alongside salty liquorice, dutch spiced biscuits and sauerkraut. Are they worth it considering they are roughly the same price per kilogram as Lindt chocolate (although you couldn't really make these yourself)? Hell yes! These biscuits are the best. My advice is to keep them in a chiller bag on the way home and perhaps pop them in the fridge if it's a hot day, as the Belgian chocolate isn't really built for the Australian climate. Delicious- quite possibly some of the nicest biscuits you'll ever eat, although given the high chocolate:biscuit ratio they're quite possibly some of the nicest chocolates you'll ever eat too!
