Courier Mail hatchet-job on 'wall of shame' shopkeepers

Community support: Neeta & Vishal Patel

I love how the Courier Mail and idiotic Ipswich councillor Paul Tully tried to do a job on a pair of Ipswich shopkeepers who stuck security footage shots of shoplifters up on their wall, only to have it backfire badly with their intended audience. I think the CM and Tully both expected readers to be only too happy to put the boot into this pair because they're 'efnic' (Indian), and there's nothing that bogan readers of tabloid papers love more than a bit of efnic-bashing, right? Except a good old dose of vigilantism, that is! So the comments page on the Courier Mail is chock-full of praise for the frazzled shopkeepers, who were losing $700 worth of stock every week to shoplifters. Let's face it: it's Ipswich. The poor bastards need to do what they can, and if that includes shaming people who were photographed shoplifting then it's hard to find sympathy for the shoplifters. Unless you're a crappy tabloid paper or a city councillor from the region that spawned Pauline Hanson, that is.

I bet Paul Tully wouldn't have been bloviating about wanting Vishal and Neeta Patel charged (with what?) if they'd been white 'strayans instead of Indian Australians.
