Pathetic cycling infrastructure invites lawsuits

I'm not surprised to see a lawyer warning that the appalling state of cycling infrastructure around Brisbane is going to result in lawsuits. Our idiotic non-cyclist mayor Campbell Newman keeps pushing for more people to cycle without backing them with safe bike paths. A massive spike in the incidence of cycling accidents and fatalities would come as no surprise. As for lawsuits? Maybe that's the kick in the pants that Campbell Newman needs to ensure that cyclists aren't forced to risk their lives in order to get from one part of Brisbane to another without the use of a car.

Ms Bence, a commuter cyclist, said she had sometimes felt safer in central London than inner Brisbane. "It's vital that the promotion of cycling is matched with the right level of government-funded bicycling-friendly infrastructure," she said.
