
If there ever was a worthy cause for which to commit Australian troops, you'd think it would be Darfur, right?
Apparently being George Bush's fig leaf in Iraq is much more important than halting the genocide in Sudan, if Alexander Downer is to be believed. Instead, we've rigged up a little fig leaf of our own, so it doesn't look like we're complete monsters. A couple of medics should do just nicely.
He called on other unspecified nations to do more to share the burden of peace efforts around the world.
"There are countries that haven't made such a huge contribution in some other parts of the world and they'll have plenty of spare capacity to help out here in Darfur," he said
Yes, why can't more foreign countries be like Australia, invading other countries and stretching their defence (in name only) forces in violation of international law at the behest of a warmongering foreign power?
