The toilet-training travails of Xiaoxiao

We had to get up early this morning because Xiaoxiao peed on the bed again. What's more, after a big storm last night the rain has hung around and there is no way I'm going to be able to get the sheets dry on the line today. I'll have to make use of our resident managers' dryer... thank god they have one, because we're down to our last set of linens.

Yesterday Xiaoxiao went the entire day without an 'incident', but I was watching her like a hawk and also taking her to the bathroom regularly and shutting myself in with her until she used her litter tray. It was a full-time job, really! I narrowly avoided having the bed peed on during the day when I saw her adopt a squatting position and rushed her to the bathroom. She knows that the litter tray is the correct place to pee, but I've noticed that even when she needs to go she is really easily distracted by 'exciting' things, so I have more success shutting the door and cutting her off from outside stimulation and things to play with.

Unfortunately, we decided to reward the day's good efforts by giving Xiaoxiao the benefit of the doubt and let her sleep on the bed instead of shutting her in the bathroom. During the night I had to get up to pee, so I took her to the bathroom with me, she did her thing and we went back to bed. She woke again at some ungodly hour and was having a fine old time attacking our feet under the bedclothes before Gam finally got jack of it and booted her off. She jumped back up immediately and started up again, so we flicked water at her. I briefly wondered if I should hop up and take her to the bathroom again, but foggily dismissed the idea because she'd already been once during the night... and I just wanted to go back to sleep. Seconds later, Gam felt a wet patch form, and not from where we'd flicked water, so we had to get up and strip the bed. Gah.

In her defence, I read a form from the vet yesterday that estimated her age at 6 weeks (we were told 8), so maybe her young age is the reason she's not yet fully trained (and is easily distracted by play from her toileting urges). It would have been bloody helpful if the weather was more conducive to bed-linen drying, because I have an absolute shitload of it to do- in addition to an existing backlog of regular washing that I had to put on hold because of all the doona-washing!

On the positive side of things, Xiaoxiao and Feifei have been getting on really well, if not quite the proverbial house-on-fire. Last night they played together quite a bit, which was very entertaining, and then were sleeping together on the bed for most of the night... until Xiaoxiao went and spoiled it all!

We are soooo tired right now...
