Welcome Xiaoxiao

Immediately after arriving home...

We picked up the newest addition to our family this afternoon, from a vet in Logan. The poor little thing was so groggy from her op (the big snip) that she fell straight asleep and remained that way until we got home. Once there, she opened her eyes for all of about 2 seconds as we introduced her to Feifei, before conking out again. Feifei seemed disappointed that she was just lying there and not interacting, so after extensive sniffing he decided he simply wasn't interested! I had expected him to try and groom her, like he does with Keith Richards, but I think the fact that she didn't respond to him meant that he saw her as some kind of small furry cat-corpse rather than a potential friend.

'Awake' briefly...

... Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Gam and I walked to the 'ville for dinner (went to Bangkok Delight for the first time- the food was really good, worth going again but we probably won't because we want to be loyal to our favourite cheapie Thai place- Thai Crystal or Thai Jewel or whatever the hell it's called these days). When we got back, Xiaoxiao had woken. I opened up the cat carrier to offer her a lid full of water and she stood, groggily, before keeling over sideways. She tried again several times, attempting to sniff the water before planting herself face first in it. So I decided perhaps we should try again later. She's been sitting on my lap ever since- aside from a few brief exertions like climbing my chest and trying to lurch off my lap in an attempt to explore she's been mostly semi-comatose... but I've been getting a lot of lovely purring :) She's so small that I can't hear the pur, but I can definitely feel it!

A couple of hours later- trying her hardest to get up!

About to pass out after clambering up my chest...

... Zzzzzzzzz...

I'm hoping that by the time Feifei wakes up later, Xiaoxiao will have become a little less groggy and will be able to say hello properly to her new brother/master/teacher- whatever the hell Feifei is destined to be in her life.

We never had to go through this stage with Feifei, because he was a good month or two older when we got him, and he was already desexed. It's kind of scary, holding this tiny, comatose body and feeling how fragile she is.

Oh, and the name? It's because she's so tiny. Also an homage to the Xiaoxiao movies. And because it's a Mandarin name, like Feifei's.

Our little bat-eared fox! When we got Feifei he had an oversized raccoon-tail and enormous whiskers- Xiaoxiao is all ears!
