Fairfax launches new Brisbane news site

Fairfax have launched a news website focusing on Brisbane and South-East Queensland, brisbanetimes.com.au. It so far appears to be really nothing more than a version of the SMH website with a page for the Queensland stories they were already running in the SMH, but at least it's not the Courier Mail.

If you're really enthusiastic you can check out this suck-piece on Peter Beattie welcoming the new site to 'the Smart State'.

I'm still puzzled as to what makes Queensland 'smart' compared with the other states (apart from our weather- take that, Tasmania!)... it's a really cringe-worthy slogan.

Well seeing as it would be an opinion based on experience and not hard fact, and probably no-one else would be able to form a counter-argument on anything but their own experience, I suppose you could say the whole debate, if there was one, would be based on bias.

But yeah, calling Queensland the 'Smart State' only puts it up front for ridicule when its leaders or inhabitants do things that aren't so smart.
