I just had to switch off ABC Newsradio because there was a booming live broadcast of George Pell giving the pope a blowjob*. Ugh. Not only does our national broadcaster regularly get hijacked by live propaganda broadcasts from a foreign head of state (George W. Bush), but now we have live broadcasts of religious propaganda. The socially acceptable, Christian kind, I mean. What next?
Oh, and while Kevin Rudd's pope-job wasn't broadcast live, it bugged the hell out of me that he had no qualms in welcoming the pope to Australia and claiming it was "on behalf of all Australians". Oh no you don't, Kev. Prime Minister you may be, but you know we're not all glad to have that wizened old agent of intolerance in our country... especially those whose neighbourhoods are being shat all over by the NSW state government and Catholic World Youth Day sheeple. I resent being so egregiously misrepresented.
* The metaphorical Caroline Overington kind, I mean (just in case old George reads this blog and threatens to sue us).

Personally, I don't have issue with "propoganda" being broadcast on the radio (ala GWB or PBXVI) - so long as there's adequate discussion afterward for alternative views to be expressed. Unfortunately that is rarely the case.
As for K07 welcoming PBXVI on behalf of "all Australians" I certainly agree. It is unfortunate as much as it was unnecessary.
Yeah that's the thing- it's always aired with no questioning of the material, no critical review, no insight. Which is what makes it propaganda and not news.
If it was to truly live up to it's name, then World Youth Day would be a celebration of young people from all cultures and religious backgrounds - not just the Catholics who I'm fairly certain don't represent anywhere near the majority of the world's population.
There's no Jews, Buddhists, Hindu's, Anglicans, Atheists and certainly no Muslims.
Could you imagine the outcry if 150,000 Muslims descended on downtown Sydney to thrust their faith onto everyone! For some reason it's perfectly legitimate for a bunch of Catholics to screw up an entire city for a week and a half - the Muslim people of Sydney must be mighty pissed - they can't even get the construction of a mosque approved!
