Difficult to forgive
Harrangueman has also posted on the SMH article on members of the Amish community who attended the funeral of the gunman who murdered those girls at their school, but I didn't want to let it pass without mention on my blog, because it's one of the most amazing displays of forgiveness I've seen. Sure, I think hanging onto hate and refusing to forgive is a fruitless exercise, but such a principle must be much harder to put into practice when you're faced with the brutal and senseless murder of someone you love. I don't think I could have brought myself to do what they did, and I really admire them for it. Religion or no religion, it must have been a damn difficult thing to do.

They must really be amazing people. What happened was so senseless and horrible, and they live such peaceful lives, it must have been all the more traumatic.
I think this would be more about the people finding some closure, not so much about forgiveness.
I think the thing people forget is that forgiving is something for the perpetrator AFTER they express regret (but can also be a kind of closure for the victim too).
