How to Sweep 700 000 Bodies Under the Rug
It would be a lot easier to take George W. Bush and John Howard's dismissal of the Lancet study that found at least 655 000 Iraqis have died as a result of America's war if the Americans hadn't banned Iraqi hospitals and morgues from releasing figures of the number of bodies that go through the system.
If the report lacks credibility, as they claim, then what information are they presenting to counter it? They've got nothing, and if the truth wasn't at least as bad as the Lancet study claims, then they'd be releasing figures to disprove it. A group of Australian doctors is calling on John Howard to take the study seriously. They may as well try and shout with their heads in a bucket of sand as try and get Howard to disagree with Bush.
700 000. That's a lot of deaths to be responsible for. No wonder they don't want to own up to it.

the methodology of the study can't be touched. fortunately they know the only people left who believe them don't know enough to understand that the study's methodology is the same statistical science that decides essentially our entire health policy. baghdad doesn't have any morgue space left. they're exporting the dead to other cities for burial.
the only people left who don't believe the study are the usual gang of necrophiliacs.
Good point Gam. A lot of the naysayers were saying that cluster techniques and using Urban areas skewed it.
But basically they proved the death rate was around 5 per 1000 pre war and now it was 19 post war. Which is a big, big leap.
The 48,000 quoted in the Iraq Bodycount is solely violent deaths as reported in the media. It does not include - as this study does - the deaths from fucked up infrastructure like poor sewers and hospitals that was damaged during the war and by looters and never repaired by the US despite all the promises to do so.
1 in 5 iraqis live in baghdad alone. hence urban areas will be over represented in their clusters. it's like ruling out a survey of aussies because a lot of the respondents were white. duh. it's also an insight into the rotted, racist minds of the detractors, iraqis are urbanised? i thought they were desert dwelling camel jockeys.
the guys at iraq body count only count dead iraqis that have been reported by more than one western media source. now that's skewed, especially when you consider that reporting from anywhere outside the "green zone" is a really great way to get yourself killed.
Indeed. Imagine the mass graves of people who died from an electric drill to the head that haven't been reported. Bet there's more than one...
Exactly what does John see in George?
And exactly how are these men still capable of smiling?
