One of the bad things about our unit is that it overlooks the visitor car park for the complex, meaning we get noise and/or vehicle fumes from anyone who decides to idle, hoon or clean their car outside.
Right now there is some silly bitch in the car park who got a new car a few weeks ago. Every Sunday since then she has spent an inordinate amount of time cleaning her car. Last week we were fortunate enough to be going out to lunch not long after she got started. This week we have been treated first to her loud music and then to over half an hour of loud noise from a particularly loud (enough to be loud with the doors closed) vacuum cleaner while she vacuumed the driver's side seat. Then it switched off and we thought "Thank god! It's over!" At which point it switched on again as she got started on the back seat, and has been going over it for the last 13 minutes. Our complex has a rule that you're not allowed to approach someone (let alone throw something at them or their car) if you have a problem with the noise they're causing- this being due to one particular resident who has been known to approach people and/or call the police at the drop of a hat. Meaning we'd have to make an official complaint to the manager to get this chick to refrain from making so much noise...and we don't want to be the residents who cry 'wolf' so often that no-one will take our complaints seriously. Meaning that I can't relieve my frustration by throwing something heavy at her car, rather I'm stuck bitching about it on my blog...
Ok, the noise has now stopped (22 minutes after she started to vacuum the back seat) and she is now polishing the insides of the fricking doors. You've got to be joking!

I wouldn't get too upset - she's probably once of those obsessive types, and we should try to not get angry when the mentally ill inconvenience us.
Plus, if it's a new car, and has that new car smell, she's probably wise in washing off those volatile organic compounds.
Understand the frustration, but I find after a few years of dealing with different sharehousemates' foibles I'm able to sleep with lights on and while there is fairly serious talking/noise happening -- except of course if it happens to be an extra grumpy day of any given month :) At least this is during daylight hours...
Yeah but if stuff happens at night a complaint is much more likely to be taken seriously!
I can sleep with lights on and through talking, but not through persistent mechanical noise, as I found out a week or two ago when our neighbour's air conditioner went on the blink... like you said, at least this was during the day :)
Ah car proud.
Bet she's a Liberal voter
