Reading this item in the SMH this morning made me recall the Norma Khouri scandal. Its made-for-Hollywood bad guys and handsome, blue-eyed love interest along with the heroine whose only fault is an excess of pluckiness and defiance in the face of relentless oppression are so contrived that they read like a Dan Brown novel.
Of course, the fact that she's attractive and a Christian does wonders for her chances of her story being turned into a Hollywood movie. I don't know if the hackneyed telemovie-style narrative is the fault of the journalist or Marina Nemat herself, but it really grated on me. That sort of crap is better suited to the Daily Telegraph.

Well if it's not true let's hope someone does the background check this time (unlike last time).
