A story in the SMH of the disgraceful treatment of Dallas McCarthy, a young gay police officer who was forced to quit his job due to ongoing harassment from his colleagues.
It seems we're not that many years ahead of Jamaica- though the New York Times, whose article I linked to, clearly see no irony in describing Jamaica as a 'dire place for gays' only a few days after publishing a story of the hate-crime killing of a 15 year old gay boy by a 14 year old.

i remember the new york times ridiculing the iranian president for saying gays don't exist in iran. how silly, you can't persecute them AND pretend they don't exist.
