Factually correct and unhyped compared to the following 'story'
I'm almost ashamed to be giving this crap any oxygen but it's so self evidently stupid. Kevin Rudd is alleged to have suggested/agreed to have the Channel 7 ANZAC day dawn service moved ahead by an hour or changed in some way for some nefarious purpose.
From Wikipedia:
Dawn is the period of time immediately preceding sunrise. It is recognized by the presence of weak sunlight, despite the fact that the sun itself is still below the horizon.
1) Dawn is not a time.2) Channel 7 are not going to go,
"You know what, Kevin we don't know what we're doing and we just love you guys to death, so just go ahead and pick a time that's best for you. We already have enough money."
3) Rudd was invited to appear on the service, not the other way around. Channel 7 changed the timing. Whether he knew about it or not is irrelevant.
4) Channel 7 are not the guardians of the sacredness of the dawn service. The vets taking part in the service agreed to change it to benefit Channel 7. Obviously the exact timing of when they commemorate being shot at by the VC so Menzies could lick LBJs balls doesn't mean too much to them.
5) Paul Murphy, vice-president of the Australian Veterans Vietnam Reconstruction Group Inc, based in Long Tan, said he had been told Sunrise began making inquiries six to eight weeks ago with the Vietnamese Foreign Affairs Department's press office in Hanoi to hold a ceremony before the official dawn services.
"You can't have more than one dawn; it's an insult," he said.
No one tell Mr Murphy that it'll be Dawn in Japan on ANZAC day before it's dawn here. Even more shockingly NZ are ANZACs too. They'll be having a service as well and it'll happen before yours.Conclusion: Beat up, and a pretty weak one at that. Come on ABC, there are more important things to put on the 7:30 report. I don't even care if I've gotten any of this wrong. It's that dumb.

I concur. What a crock shit, fed also by the media's pathetic school girl jealousy that Rudd can talk directly with the people he needs to win the election, rather than going through the spank-paddle gauntlet of the so called 'punditariat' - a group of individuals generally no nothing and say less.
Actually I've done schoolgirls everywhere a grave disservice. They have a lot more maturity.
I wish he hadn't quit the show.
It's news limited. They failed on Brian Burke. They failed on Rudd's family history (though fairfax did the yards on that). Now they're failing on this.
I too was disappointed by the way this trivial story led The 7.30 Report.
