Funny how poker machines grow legs and migrate towards socioeconomically disadvantaged areas with high rates of problem gambling. Members of the Australian Hotels Association wouldn't condone taking advantage of people with a pathological gambling problem, would they? The State government would crack down on such actions if they were occurring, surely?

I hate pokies so much. They're basically feeder pellet boxes for rats that blink. People that play pokies have something wrong with them. They don't even give a fun experience. I mean all people do is hit maximum lines then 1c credit. Again and again and again.
If I was govt I'd allow gambling. By humans in casinos. And piss off pokies. Like the Canberra Casino here in the ACT. Not a pokie to be seen.
If you don't like pokies, then don't play them. Tim Freedman doesn't and yet he continues to make a living by playing in venues which Oh My God make money from pokies. Ah-ma... someone should stop people from profiting out of things that some people actually find entertaining... what is this - a nanny state??

Prevelance studies in Australia show that approximately 0.2 - 0.5% of the population are problem gamblers.
There is actually no evidence to suggest that by increasing the number of poker machines available in an area will increase the rate of problem gambling. Ie - more pokies does not mean more problem gamblers.
If we were to take all the pokies out of pubs and clubs and stick them in the casino then you can kiss a good half of all those venues goodbye... and poor Tim Freedman will have no where to play and the rest of us will have no where to eat, drink or socialise.
Unless you want to restrict those activities to the casino too.
