John Howard supports $20 minimum wage increase

Petrol money, mortgage repayments... don't spend it all at once!

John Howard has called for the minimum wage to be raised because it's a frigging election year. His government has a history of opposing wage rises for Australia's lowest-paid workers, and the only reason he's being uncharacteristically charitable to minimum wage earners is because he's shit-scared over the effect his WorkChoices laws are going to have on his election chances.

I hope he gets screwed.

I wish a newspaper article would start like that... 'The Prime Minister has called for the minimum wage to be raised because it's an election year.' It's more honest that way.

It's sad to see how Howard judges the need for a minimum wage increase. The ability for the working poor to survive doesn't even enter into the equation.

It has to do with the performance of the economy/labour market, job growth, unemployment rate. By all means they're things to be considered in the overall scheme, but he used only these factors to justify a wage increase.

He's trying to score points with the same people whose cost of living he refuses to even consider.

From having a quick look at their submission, they really do neglect looking any living costs.

Sick twisted little man. Go Maxine.
