Designer-clad tots the spawn of wankers

Gwen Stefani with her AUD$1000 Gucci baby carrier- it looks like a doormat attached to a belt!

Really, it's hard to think of bigger wankers than the sort of people who'll fork out $300 for a pair of jeans for a little kid. Or $300 for a pair of shoes. Even $40 for a toddler's t-shirt, or $24 for a 3-year-old's beanie. When I was 3 years old, my favourite piece of headgear was a red tea-cosy with green knitted 'leaves' that was supposed to look like a strawberry (I thought the holes for the handle and spout were ear-holes!). It probably came from an op-shop and cost about 10c, but I thought it was the bee's knees. Heck, my parents still have it at their place- our kids will probably wear it!

Little kids don't, and shouldn't, care about how much money is spent on their clothes. Baby label-mania is all about rich parents showing off to other rich parents just how much money they can afford to spend on little Bronte and William.

Anyone who forks out for designer clothes for their kids is a wanker with too much money. Meanwhile, children in other countries still go blind for want of a 1c dose of vitamin A, and die for want of a $1 vaccine, or clean water.

Talk about fucked up.

It's so true. I think it's part of the extended parenting being 1st time mums at 32 instead of 23. They have money, they're only having 2 kids, so they become an extension of them rather than individuals to be nurtured. It stuns me the amount of money people spend on their kids when said kids really have no concept of fashion etc.
