Rach has had the great idea of starting a website called dibberdobbers.com, "a place where one can dob on people for being; jerks/tools/useless/naughty/reckless". Her post reminded me that I need to have a serious bitch about the current crop of American jerks who live across the road from us.
These people don't sunbake as much as other American neighbours we've had, but their partying habits are even more obnoxious.
The reason for this is that none of their uni work here counts for anything, and they don't have to sit exams. Hence they feel they have the right to hold massive parties during swot-vac and go drinking on a Sunday night then sit in the street and yell to each other. This lot hold parties and get drunk every weekend, as well as go drinking during the week.
A few weeks ago they held a party far too large for their townhouse that spilled out across the street and into our driveway; around midnight we called the cops but they didn't show for an hour. When the cops finally showed the crowd (originally around 50 people) had shrunk somewhat, but there were loads of people lying on the footpath and kerb strip. That was pretty bad, but the worst of it was over by 1 or 2am.
We've had something of a reprieve over Easter, as they always go on a holiday at this time. This year was no exception; they left the day before Good Friday and arrived back yesterday. Until Easter we had an American family living in the unit next door; two parents, one school-aged boy and the whiniest, rudest, most overindulged toddler imaginable. Never heard a peep from the boy, but the little girl was the most horrible child I've ever had the misfortune to come across. She was regularly rude to her parents, and even in her 'normal' moments, had an incredibly whiny, nasal voice. The little Norwegian toddler who lived in the same unit prior to these guys was a tyrant who screamed when she didn't get her own way, but the rest of the time she was incredibly cute. Not so the American brat. Thankfully they seem to have left- I think the unit they were living in was sold. Even so, the worst neighbours we've had in that unit have been Malaysian guys who smoked all the time and slept in shifts, so there was always someone making noise. Can't complain too much on that front, given how awful those guys were.
Back to the fuckers who live across the road...
At 3am last night, we were woken by the characteristic hooting of the drunk American (something we've noticed- Aussies can be raucous drunk, but Americans like to hoot and yell "Woo-hoo!!" very loudly). There were some American guys sitting on a car in the street affecting a Borat accent and yelling "Hi-Fayve!". Eventually, Gam got up and got dressed and went downstairs to ask them to be quiet. When I realised he was going downstairs and not just call to them from the balcony, I went to the balcony door to watch and make sure he was ok.
Before Gam reached them (the guys weren't just across the road, they were down the street a little), one of the guys started a conversation on his mobile phone. His phone speaker was up so loud I could hear what the girl on the other end was saying. When Gam arrived at the car he was greeted with a drunken "High Fayve!", and the guys agreed to quiet it down a little.
Only they didn't. It was at least another hour before we could get back to sleep.
The fuckers have had a whole week to get wasted, and the minute they get back, they get stuck into the booze again while those of us who have to go to uni/work in the morning are desperately trying to get some sleep.
I think the only reason the cops aren't called more often is that most of the residents of this street are foreign students who don't know that they can phone the cops if someone decides to make a racket at 3am.
Usually the guys aren't such massive dickheads compared with the girls, and they only become noticeable around exam time, when the Americans usually congregate. This year they are complete tools. I can't wait for them to leave!

Aw man ... I used to be a noise maker. Then I realised what a fucking evil thing it is to do to people. Now I'm even leary of having a TV too load.
We lived next door to a couple. They used to play Amway tapes with Sittar music interlaced through it. It went right through the wall.
